Stress and Hunger

Is stress related by your appetite in any way? Well yes of course it is. Stress produces a great effect on the hunger of the person. People like me tend to eat more when they are stressed up. However the other types may tend to lose their appetite completely when they are stressed. Both the situations are dangerous for your health and well being as human body needs a proper balance of food and nutrition to function well.

Too much or too little of anything may cause a disturbance in the body. Remember that due to stress your mind is already disturbed. So, the solution lies in reducing stress, not taking weight loss pills to reduce weight or nutrition capsules to add extra mass onto your body.

Researches and surveys have proved that when under stressed, the eating habits of people are greatly disturbed. They either lose appetite completely or go ahead and eat anything that can be taken out from the packet and put straight into their mouth. They complain of not having sufficient time or energy left to prepare meals three times a day. However one should not forget that unhealthy eating and excess fats in the body may lead to clotting of veins, strokes and even heart attacks. So isn’t it better to push time a little and make out a small place to eat healthy daily. You can only work if you are healthy. An unhealthy body is prone to stress even more.

Role of Cortisol in Stress
Eating too much or eating unhealthy under stress may not only be the only reason of weight gain. There are hormones named as Cortisol in our body. These are also alternatively known as stress hormones. When the body is under stress these hormones are excreted more than their normal level. This excess excretion causes disruption in the metabolism rate, blood flow and even digestive system. Different people suffer different consequences.

However, the amount of Cortisol excreted under stress is different from person to person. Those having a low mental resistance are prone to more stress in lives and hence may excrete more Cortisol than a person who has learned not to lose his mind under stress. Studies have revealed that women with more abdominal fats yielded higher Cortisol levels when compared to women normal in shape.

Many diet supplements now contain agents that lower the Cortisol levels in the body. However nothing has yet confirmed that these supplements actually are able to reduce the Cortisol levels. However there is one 100% proven technique that can reduce your Cortisol levels. This technique needs some specific amount of your time daily. This technique is regular exercise. Once the Cortisol levels are back to normal, the weight gain can be reduced by further exercise and proper diet given that stress is under control.
