How to Convert an Attic Into Climate Controlled Storage

Before deciding to convert your Attic into Climate controlled storage, you will first have to analyze what sort of things you would want to store in it after the conversion. This is an important consideration as the nature of the things to be stored would effect your decision a lot. The material of the boxes and containers used for storage purposes will also effect this decision. Today will be discussing about how to convert your attic into a climate controlled storage in the most general way.

Things Required:

Basic repair tools
Hammer
Drills
Pest Control Mechanism

Steps:

Converting your attic into climate controlled storage would first of all require studying the temperature variations in your area very carefully.

The climatic and humidity ranges are the deciding factors on what type of insulators must be installed in the walls of the attic.

Ventilation is an important factor when considering a climate controlled storage. Make sure there is reasonable ventilation.

Make sure to get the flooring of the attic checked. The floor of the attic serves as the ceiling for the rooms beneath. If the floors are not in a good condition, it may cause problems in bad climate. These problems may affect the items stored in the attic as well as the household beneath.

Next, get the roofs checked. Incase any repair is required. Make the repair and add the insulation required.

If you want to store larger items in your attic then try to make it as spacious as possible. After all the inspections regarding climate control, remove all unnecessary things that block space.

Check your attic for any indication of ventilators from the house into the attic. Contractors usually open the ducts of the house ventilation into the attic instead of outside. This causes the attic to literally rot. The moisture which gathers up frequently makes it no worse than a bathroom. Measures should be taken to remove all such ventilators openings and transfer them so that they open on the outer side of the house.

If the chimneys are completely open, make sure to add some kind of mesh in to the opening so that there are no chances of any animal to fall in even by accident.

The attic should be converted into a climate controlled storage unit when you have loads of stuff to store. If the stuff is limited to regular household items or clothes, then probably regular cleaning of the attic would be sufficient instead of converting it.

Tips:

If your attic is in a good condition and there are no leakages, it is better to use it as storage straight away. Converting into climate controlled storage can be costly. If the climate in your area is not too adverse, better use it as it is.

Pest control should be done regularly, no matter how much it costs your.

Warnings:

Never every try to convert your attic into a climate controlled storage without doing effect pest control first. Pests have a tendency to hide away during all the maintenance phases and when you start to store your items, they return back to attack them.
